- Cinnamon sugar (¼ cup sugar + 1 teaspoon cinnamon) for rolling (optional)
Instructions
1. Make the Donut Dough
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the melted butter, egg, vanilla, and yeast mixture. Stir until combined.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
2. Make the Strawberry Cheesecake Filling
- In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- Fold in the diced strawberries and heavy cream, mixing until creamy.
- Transfer the filling to a piping bag fitted with a small round tip.
3. Roll & Cut the Dough
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a lightly floured surface to about ½-inch thickness.
- Use a round cutter (about 3 inches wide) to cut out circles.
- Transfer the dough rounds to a baking sheet, cover, and let rest for 10-15 minutes.
4. Fry the Donuts (or Bake!)
Option 1: Frying Method (Classic & Crispy)
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry 2-3 donuts at a time, flipping after 30-40 seconds per side until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
Option 2: Baking Method (Lighter Alternative)
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Arrange donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until golden brown.
5. Fill the Donuts with Cheesecake
- Let the donuts cool slightly, then use a small knife or skewer to create a hole in each donut.
- Fill a piping bag with the strawberry cheesecake mixture and gently pipe it into each donut.
6. Add the Topping & Serve
- Roll the warm donuts in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for extra flavor.
