Hoisin Chickens

  • Author: Luna
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 1 ½ lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs (or chicken breast)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For the Hoisin Sauce:

  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

For Garnishing and Serving:

  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • Steamed white or brown rice (for serving)
  • Stir-fried or steamed vegetables (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

Start by cutting the chicken into bite-sized pieces for easy cooking. If using chicken thighs, trim any excess fat. If using chicken breast, slice it thinly to ensure it cooks evenly.

Season the chicken with salt and black pepper, then set it aside while you prepare the sauce.

Step 2: Make the Hoisin Sauce

In a small bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey (or brown sugar), rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. This sauce will give the chicken its sticky, caramelized glaze, so make sure everything is well combined.

Step 3: Cook the Chicken

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add olive oil or sesame oil, followed by the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Add the chicken to the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 4: Add the Hoisin Sauce

Pour the prepared hoisin sauce over the cooked chicken and toss to coat evenly. Let the chicken simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and caramelize slightly. Stir occasionally to ensure every piece is coated in the delicious glaze.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

Once the sauce has thickened, remove the skillet from heat. Sprinkle the chicken with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for extra flavor and presentation.

Serve the Hoisin Chicken over steamed rice, alongside stir-fried veggies, or wrapped in lettuce cups for a lighter option.
