  • Author: Luna
  • Total Time: 1 hour 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12 garlic knots 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Garlic Butter Coating:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley (or fresh, finely chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

For Garnish (Optional):

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Extra chopped parsley

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy (this means the yeast is activated).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix with a wooden spoon or stand mixer with a dough hook until the dough comes together.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. (If using a stand mixer, knead for about 5 minutes on medium speed.)
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Shape the Garlic Knots

  1. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface.
  2. Roll the dough into a 12-inch log and cut it into 12 equal pieces.
  3. Roll each piece into a 6-inch rope, then tie it into a knot.
  4. Place the knots on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let them rest for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Prepare the Garlic Butter Coating

  1. While the knots are resting, melt the butter in a saucepan or microwave.
  2. Stir in minced garlic, oregano, parsley, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes to enhance the flavors.

Step 4: Bake the Garlic Knots

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brush the garlic knots with half of the garlic butter mixture.
  3. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 5: Finish with Garlic Butter and Serve

  1. Remove the knots from the oven and immediately brush with the remaining garlic butter.
  2. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and extra parsley, if desired.
  3. Serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
