  • Author: Luna
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 slices (serves 3-4) 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sloppy Joe Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • ½ cup yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • ¼ cup beef broth (or water)

For the Garlic Bread:

  • 6 slices of French bread, Italian bread, or Texas toast
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the Cheese Topping:

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Sloppy Joe Filling

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 4-5 minutes, breaking it up with a spatula until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking for another 2 minutes until fragrant and softened.
  3. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well.
  4. Pour in beef broth (or water) and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.

Step 2: Make the Garlic Bread

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and grated Parmesan.
  2. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly onto each slice of bread.
  3. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes, or until lightly toasted.

Step 3: Assemble the Sloppy Joe Melts

  1. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture evenly onto each toasted garlic bread slice.
  2. Sprinkle each slice with shredded mozzarella and extra Parmesan cheese.

Step 4: Melt the Cheese

  1. Switch the oven to broil (high setting).
  2. Broil the assembled melts for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown. Watch carefully to avoid burning!

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy!

  1. Garnish with fresh parsley for a pop of color and extra flavor.
  2. Serve hot with a side of marinara sauce for dipping or a fresh salad for balance.
  3. Enjoy the cheesy, garlicky, saucy goodness!
