Ingredients
– 4 chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
– 1/4 cup soy sauce
– 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
– 2 tablespoons honey
– 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
– 1 tablespoon sesame oil
– 1 tablespoon five-spice powder
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
– 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Follow these easy steps to create amazing Char Siu Chicken Thighs:
1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, five-spice powder, minced garlic, and minced ginger until well combined.
2. Marinate the Chicken: Place the chicken thighs in a large zip-top bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring all pieces are thoroughly coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to overnight for more flavor).
3. Preheat the Grill or Oven: If grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using an oven, preheat to 425°F (220°C).
4. Remove Chicken from Marinade: Take the marinated chicken thighs out of the refrigerator and remove them from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off.
5. Cook the Chicken: For grilling, place the chicken thighs on the grill and cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until they achieve a nice char and are cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C). For oven baking, place the marinated chicken on a lined baking sheet and cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
6. Glaze While Cooking: Brush the chicken with the remaining marinade during the last few minutes of cooking to enhance the flavor.
7. Rest the Chicken: Once cooked, remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing.
8. Slice and Serve: Slice the chicken thighs against the grain for maximum tenderness.
