- 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- ½ cup crumbled blue cheese
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for drizzling)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon butter (melted, for extra richness)
- Pinch of black pepper
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the puff pastry sheet into a thin rectangle, about 10×12 inches. If your pastry is already rolled out, simply place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Evenly sprinkle the crumbled blue cheese over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges. Scatter the chopped walnuts on top, followed by the fresh thyme leaves. Add a light pinch of black pepper to enhance the flavors. If you want a touch of sweetness, drizzle a thin layer of honey over the filling.
Starting from one of the longer edges, carefully roll the pastry into a tight log, similar to a cinnamon roll. Once rolled, gently press the seam to seal. Using a sharp knife, slice the log lengthwise down the middle, creating two long strips.
Take the two halves and gently twist them around each other, keeping the cut sides facing up to reveal the filling. Shape the twisted pastry into a spiral or twirl, tucking the ends underneath to secure.
In a small bowl, whisk together one egg and one tablespoon of milk to create an egg wash. Brush the mixture over the pastry to give it a glossy, golden finish when baked. For extra richness, lightly brush with melted butter as well.
Transfer the twirl to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20–22 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown. The blue cheese should be melted, and the walnuts lightly toasted.
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing. For an extra touch of elegance, drizzle with a bit more honey or serve with a side of fig jam. This puff pastry twirl pairs wonderfully with a glass of wine or a cup of tea.
