Ingredients
For the Nests:
- 3 cups crispy rice cereal
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 package (10 oz) mini marshmallows
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Baby Birds:
- 24 candy-coated chocolate eggs (such as Mini Cadbury Eggs or jelly beans)
- 24 candy eyes (or mini chocolate chips)
- 6 orange mini M&Ms (cut in half for tiny beaks)
- ½ cup melted white or milk chocolate (for “gluing” decorations)
Instructions
In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows, stirring constantly until completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Gently fold in the crispy rice cereal, mixing until fully coated. Let the mixture cool slightly so it’s easier to handle (about 2 minutes). Lightly grease your hands with butter or cooking spray, then take small handfuls of the mixture and shape them into little nest shapes on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Press a small indentation in the center of each nest to hold the baby birds. Let the nests cool for about 15 minutes.
Take two candy-coated chocolate eggs for each nest and place them inside. To make the faces, attach candy eyes and a mini M&M beak using a small dab of melted chocolate as glue. Hold in place for a few seconds until set.
Allow the nests and baby birds to set for another 10-15 minutes. Once firm, they’re ready to serve and enjoy!
