Ingredients
- 4 fresh croissants, sliced in half horizontally
- 8 slices of smoked turkey ham or chicken ham
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 4 slices of mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Lettuce or spinach leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the croissants
-
Slice each croissant in half horizontally, being careful not to tear the delicate layers.
-
Lightly butter the inside of each half with a thin layer of softened butter.
2. Add spreads (optional)
-
If using mustard or mayonnaise, spread a small amount on the bottom half of each croissant.
-
These condiments enhance the flavor profile without overpowering the main ingredients.
3. Layer the ham and cheese
-
Place two slices of ham over the bottom half of each croissant.
-
Add one slice of cheddar and one slice of mozzarella cheese on top of the ham.
-
Season with freshly ground black pepper if desired.
4. Close and prepare for toasting
-
Place the top halves of the croissants over the layered filling.
-
Press down gently to keep the sandwiches together.
5. Toast the sandwiches
-
Preheat a skillet or sandwich press over medium heat.
-
Carefully place the sandwiches onto the skillet or press.
-
Toast for about 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese has melted.
6. Serve warm
-
Remove from heat and allow the sandwiches to rest for 1–2 minutes before serving.
-
Serve alone or with a side of salad, soup, or roasted vegetables.
