Ingredients
– 4 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
– 1 ½ teaspoons salt
– ¼ cup granulated sugar
– 1 ¾ cups warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
– ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
– 2 large eggs
– 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
– Extra melted butter for brushing
Instructions
Making these fluffy dinner rolls is a straightforward process. Just follow these easy steps:
1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and optional honey.
4. Combine Mixtures: Pour the yeast mixture and wet ingredients into the flour mixture. Stir until a dough starts to form.
5. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
6. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
7. Shape Rolls: Once risen, punch the dough down gently to remove air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces, rolling each into a ball.
8. Second Rise: Place the shaped rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or on a lined baking sheet. Cover and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes, until puffy.
9. Preheat Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
10. Bake: Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter before placing them in the oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
11. Cool: Remove from oven and allow to cool for a few minutes. Brush with additional melted butter, if desired.
